Restricting yourself to bringing only one camera whilst travelling is harder than choosing what summer festival to go to. But do it and bathe in the simplicity that life will bring you after that hard decision is made.
"One carry on bag. That means one camera. One flipping camera, are you kidding me. And probably one lens, shit ! This is the toughest decision I've had to make since choosing subjects in year 10. Digital or film? Film. Thats an obvious choice but now the Canon or the Nikonos."
I'm scrambling to get my things together and having to choose one camera is proving harder than I thought. It boiled down and I eventually chose my Nikonos V on the basis that I thought there might be some water action and I wanted to be right there with my camera in hand
And I fucking loved it, i'll tell you why.
First and obvious point to any film lover is the restriction that you have whilst shooting film. Only 36 frames per roll so you want to make every frame count. It makes you conserve shots and slows you down. Your asking yourself, “is this going to be a good shot, a worthwhile moment or is this just a photo that probably 2000 other people will have on their iPhones”.
Second reason why I loved the Nikonos is that its a sturdy mother fucker. Not only is it a great land camera built out of some tough aluminium but it’s also waterproof so I found myself having no excuse bringing it out on every adventure that we had. There was literally no terrain that this camera couldn’t handle.
Three its small and compact. The dials are nice and big and the focus and aperture dials are easy to use.
Finally the excitement that you get when you get home and get to develop all of those memories that you have captured and stored is a crazy cool feeling
New favourite travel camera? I think so
