Introduce yourself, who are you ? Where are you from ?
My name is Edan Visser, I'm 22 years old from Wollongong. I've been creating music under the moniker Hounded for about 4 years.
What’s your inspiration to make music ?
I grew up on listening to artists like John Mayer who created these perfectly structured songs that had such replay-ability with their melodies and lyrics. I started by learning the guitar, then moved on to piano and electronic music production, all self taught.
How did you grow your audience ?
I started posting music on SoundCloud from 2013 and was lucky enough to have a few blogs re-post the records I was uploading which gave me a decent amount of plays. From there I continued to put out music and network with websites to expand my reach. I really got my first big break when the YouTube channel MrSuicideSheep uploaded one of my songs to their YouTube channel which had about 2 million subscribers. I've also been fortunate enough to have Artists like ODESZA, Jai Wolf, Martin Garrix and Axwell/ Ingrosso repost or add my tracks to their playlists on SoundCloud and Spotify which has given me a large bump in plays. Recently, Spotify has been my main focus of growth. I have about 600,000 monthly listeners and am hoping to keep increasing that by putting out quality records.
How did the majestic deal come about ?
So Majestic was actually the main reason why I started writing electronic music. I discovered their YouTube channel in late 2012 and was blown away by the music people were creating around the world. I made it one of my goals to get a release on their record label, and after 3 or so years of both developing my sound and networking I was able to get in direct contact with them and show them a song I had written which I hoped could be released by them. It was definitely tough waiting until the right opportunity, as I didn't want to send them something that wasn't finished or my best work. But they loved it and decided to release it on their record label. The song has been incredible for both of us, receiving over 4 million streams on Spotify. It's definitely a career milestone for me and I'm grateful that I was given the opportunity.
What's the relationship there ?
I've released two tracks under Majestic Casual as part of our record deal. I've got a good relationship with the guys and am always sending over new songs and ideas for them to listen to. I'm definitely going to continue to work with them in the future as they are an incredible brand and respected both by listeners and artists.
What are the plans for the future ?
I have a run of shows this July and August that will take me to places like Sydney, Central Coast, Perth and Queensland. I also have a new record that comes out July 7 under Spinnin Records. I'm really excited for this one actually, it's something very different for me!
